How To Master Work-Life Balance With These 6 Personal Tips

Do you ever feel like the clock is moving faster than you?

This was one of those days. I woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing—another email from a client that needed my attention. The grandkids had a school program. My husband, retired and content, was asking if we could spend the afternoon together, perhaps take a drive or enjoy lunch out—a simple request. Plus, my mother-in-law had a doctor’s appointment I couldn’t miss, adding another layer to my already packed day.

As I stood in the kitchen, coffee in hand, I felt the weight of it all. How was I supposed to grow this business when every moment seemed to be spoken for? I glanced at my laptop on the counter, a constant reminder that my dream wouldn’t build itself, yet I barely had time to answer an email before the next demand from family life pulled me away.

I felt the familiar tug of frustration, wondering how other women seemed to juggle it all. How did they find time to build their dreams while keeping their families happy?

Then I remembered that quote I’d read months ago:

“Time is a created thing. To say ‘I don’t have time’ is to say, ‘I don’t want to.’”

But today, I felt like I didn’t have time—and I did want to. The hours were slipping away, and I struggled to figure out how to give enough of myself to everyone and everything without losing sight of why I started this journey in the first place.

And so, despite the chaos and demands of the day, I decided to carve out time—not because it was easy, but because it was necessary. My business, my dream, deserved its place in the day just as much as everything else.

Finding The Time to Grow Your Business

Finding time when life is full of responsibilities can feel like an impossible task, but there are some strategies that can help us carve out those precious moments for what matters most. Here are a few ideas that have worked for me:

  1. Prioritize Ruthlessly: We can’t do everything, so focusing on what truly matters is essential. Each day, I look at my to-do list and pick the top three tasks that are most important for my business growth. The rest will wait.
  2. Time Blocking: I’ve started scheduling blocks of time dedicated solely to my business. Whether it’s early morning before the house wakes up or an hour after my husband and mother-in-law are settled in for the evening, these moments become sacred work time.
  3. Ask for Help: It’s hard to ask for help, but I’ve learned that I don’t have to do it all. Sometimes, I ask my husband to run an errand or have the grandkids help out with simple tasks. Delegating a little can free up more time for business.
  4. Multitask Smartly: Sometimes, I combine tasks when I can. I’ll listen to business podcasts or audiobooks while driving to appointments or brainstorm ideas for my business while doing laundry. These small moments add up.
  5. Set Boundaries: This has been tough, but I’m learning to say no when I need to. It’s okay to set boundaries with family and friends when I need time to focus on my business. Saying no to something today can mean saying yes to a bigger dream tomorrow.
  6. Take Breaks When Needed: Sometimes, I feel like I’m constantly moving, but I’ve realized that burnout won’t help me or my business. Taking small breaks to recharge helps me be more productive and present when I dive back into work.

Time may be limited, but by making small changes and being intentional, we can find the moments to keep moving toward our goals, even with a full plate.
